Tunisian neurologist, Dr Hichem Jarraya, who is the head of a research team in France, that aims at finding a treatment of Parkinson desease, has declared recently that he and his team have discovered an effective biological cure to Parkinson desease. In an interview for Tunisian TV 7 channel, Dr Jarraya declared yesterday that, After conducting research on apes who suffered from Parkinson desease, he succeeded in locating the exact nerve cells in one part of the brain, called substantia nigra, that die or are impaired in PD. These nerve cells produce dopamine, an important chemical messenger that transmits signals from the substantia nigra to another part of the brain called the corpus striatum. These signals allow for coordinated movement. When the dopamine-secreting cells in the substantia nigra die, the other movement control centers in the brain become unregulated. These disturbances in the control centers of the brain cause the symptoms of PD. When 80% of the dopamine-producing cells in the substantia nigra are depleted, symptoms of PD develop.

According to Dr Jarraya, his results show that 80 percent of apes that have undergone introduction of potamine in these newly discovered parts of the brain, have improved considerably and the desease' s symptoms have disappeared. He says that 6 Parkinson desease volunteer patients have undergone the same treatment, and similarly, all have improved considerably, with disappearance of PD symptoms. What is also very important, according to Dr Hichem Jarraya, is that the new treatment hassn' t manifested any side effects.
