Anthony Sowell, 50, was a scrap dealer – he would collect scraps of iron and sell these to eke out a living. He had served a 15-year prison sentence on charges of rape and, when recently, a woman reported to the police of being raped by him, the police went to his house to investigate. He was not there but, scattered in the house were the decomposed remains of at least six dead bodies. There were two on the third floor, a freshly dug grave in the basement held a third body apart from two more in the loft and the sixth one in the surrounding compound. Two of the bodies are of women while the others are decomposed to such an extent that establishing their identities is not going to be easy. Did Anthony Sowell kill these persons? If he did, what was his motive? The police have a tough case on hand and they have to begin by identifying the bodies. To that extent, the police have asked the locals to come forward with details of missing relatives – hopefully, such a course of action would provide clues to apprehend and convict the murderer.
