Today is Halloween and to celebrate one of my favorite times of the year I wanted to do an article on a few Halloween related Music Videos.
Bat For Lashes - Whats a Girl To Do
The video starts with a girl on her bicycle on a dark and empty street. With an eerie 50s style doo wop beat the song starts and the girl begins peddle toward the camera as the camera begins to move down the road.
Around the :38 sec mark, the video gets interesting. One of my favorite music video moments of all time, I don’t want to ruin it for anyone but the spookiness of the singers voice and music, coupled with the images of masks and costumes makes this video a great Halloween music video.
The Chemical Brothers - Midnight Madness
It’s midnight in an Alley in England. Out of a big green commercial waste dumpster a break dancing goblin, wearing a glittering golden one piece, emerges. He dances around the alley for a little bit before he jumps up onto the ladders and stairs along the side of the buildings.
He performs different acrobatic maneuvers before sneaking into a window. Dancing through the building he makes it to the stage just in time to perform to a light show.
He then sneaks back out to the alley and returns to the garbage dumpster and no one notices that just seconds before there had been a break dancing goblin in a glittering golden one piece.
The tail is kind of freaky.
Architecture In Helsinki - Heart It Races
What happens when a artsy hippie band needs to make a cheap music video. Well usually it means going to the forest preserve and bringing along costumes. And that’s basically what happens hear.
Puppets and costumes, pagan-like rituals and dances, but light hearted and amusing, this video is very entertaining.
The singing style adds to the images of video witch doctors and dancing puppets.
It’s late one night and a woman and a child run into a super market, looking for a place to hide. They are about to change into werewolves. The security guard decides to help them and locks everyone in.
They change into the werewolves and dance with, scare and kill shoppers. They drink and shop and party and trash the store.
You’ve never been to a party until you’ve been to a party that get terrorized by werewolves.
SEXY VAMPIRE CHEERLEADERS!!!!
Three cheerleaders have died, but the young night security man is too bored to care about the cheerleaders. While making the rounds at the hospital, he comes across the bodies of the cheerleaders, takes a quick peek and continues making his rounds and returning to his desk.
There he notices that the cheerleaders have come to life and are singing and dancing.
He runs to check it out and then is attacked by the vampire cheerleaders.
Great dance song and freaky vampire images.
Radiohead - There, There (The Boney King of Nowhere)
The song starts with drums that sound like pots and pans. Thom Yorke’s eeries vocals and dark lyrics are nicely complimented by the jerky and faded video.
The first few lyrics are “In pitch dark, I go walking in your landscape, broken branches trip me as I sleep, just cause you feel it, doesn’t mean it’s there”.
The landscape is a dark nightmare of a forest. Tiny creatures reminiscent of children’s books live in these woods. Thom hides behind trees and shrubs as he spies on the lives of these tiny creatures of the woodland.
Hanging from a tree he spots a glowing coat and behind the coat, inside a hole in the tree a pair of boots. After he puts on the coat and boots the ravens guarding the tree begin to attack him.
He makes a run for it. He realizes that the boots are helping him escape the angry ravens, but just when he thinks he’s escaped, roots from the ground strip Thom of his boots and turn him into a tree.
The ravens then rest on the tree that once was a man.
A great video by one of the world’s greatest bands.
Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows
While driving through the woods, the band hits a deer by mistake. When they get out to check, the deer wakes and attacks the band.
The deer then ties the band onto their car and drives the car back home.
On the way he busts a boy scout bonfire.
The songs dark and ominous lyrics with the heavy guitars and stressful pace just add to the horrifying man killing deer.
A friend of mine told me a little while ago that while watching Manswers on Spike TV, she saw a segment on the most dangerous animals to come across in the forest. Deer topped the list.
Most humans don’t think deer are dangerous and try to get close to it. The deer in return get nervous and attack the humans. Many die.
Though the real life human killing deer stories are significantly different from this music video.
Hope you enjoy the videos and Halloween!!!
