Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani on Saturday finally accepted the long standing demand of NWFP and announced to pay Rs 110 billion of Net Hydel Profit (NHP) in five years with the assurance to release Rs 10 billion within no time while the province will get Rs 25 billion at first quarter of each financial year in the next four year.
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, who held marathon meetings with Chief Minister, Amir Haider Hotti, Governor Awais Ahmad Ghani and representatives of Malakand division and Fata on various issues, also announced that federal government will pay the amount as per decision of the arbitration tribunal in 2005 while a technical committee had been formed to calculate the Net Hydel Profit of the remaining years after the date of announcement of the decision.
Following this announcement, Prime Minister informed both Wapda and NWFP government agreed to withdraw their cases pending in different courts.” Federal government will pay the amount and in consultation of NWFP government we agreed that the first cheque of Rs 10 billion will be released within day or two,” Gillani announced while briefing media men at governor house.
Condemning the recent terrorist act in Peshawar, PM Gillani said it was a very shocking terrorist action therefore he himself came to the province to express solidarity with the people of NWFP and condole the deaths of innocent people in the blast.
PM said federal government will not leave people of NWFP alone and announced to release 50 millions for compensation package with the assurance that government will assess the financial losses of the public and will compensate them accordingly.
Terrorists, the PM said had no faith and religion and they were working on the foreign agenda to destabilize Pakistan however they will not succeed in their plans as the whole nation was united and backing the security forces to rout out the menace.
Prime Minster said providing security to the public was prime responsibility of the government therefore government will further increase capacity of the security personals to cope with insurgency.
Commenting on the operation in South Waziristan, PM said Mehsud tribe was loyal to Pakistan and the displace persons will be provided full assistance as well as proper care of them will be taken up. “Like people of Malakand people of Waziristan are will get the same package and their sacrifices will be honored as they are bearing the hardships and scarifying for Pakistan’s security,” Gillani remarked.
He said those who left their homes and shifted to DI Khan and other parts should have no doubt in their minds as government will start rehabilitation process in Waziristan to convert it in to a model agency and for the purpose a committee under Governor NWFP had been formed which will formulate recommendations within a month.
“According to our exit policy we will strengthen all the institution in Fata so when the forces exit from Fata the institutions could manage to operate. As per the policy the security force in Fata will also be strengthen,” PM said.
On the pattern of Pakistan Army, Shuhada Trust (Martyr Trust) will be established for police in all four provinces for which federal government will provide the funds, Mr. Gillani announced adding the 2nd installment of Rs 6 billion for enhancing the capacity of police and other forces will also be released soon.
