You’re on your own for the costume, but we can at least help you narrow down your options for the party. Advertisement FILM Horror, ’80’s Style The young director Ti West is a “genre savant versed in classic fright and its self-conscious permutations,” writes Manohla Dargis. His third film, “The House of the Devil,” is “a period pastiche that mimics the low-res vibe and look of early-1980s horror, along with the same bad hair and clothes,” and clichés, like the babysitter co-ed and the creaking stairs. Generating “dread with pinpricks rather than bludgeoning shocks,” Dargis writes, “here is a horror movie with real shivers.” EVENTS Where to Watch the Marathon Let’s be honest, you’re not going to be in any shape to do much on Sunday. But some hardier (read: crazier) people are. Support the runners of the New York Marathon by, you know, waving at them. First Avenue is a particularly boisterous viewing spot — “from 59th Street to about 90th street, you can contribute to the roaring canyon of sound and spur an unsuspecting runner into a dead sprint,” Liz Robbins writes — though she also likes Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint (bonus: pierogies!) and we enjoy Ft. Greene and Park Slope. Afterwards you can walk — at your own leisurely pace — to a nearby Five Guys for a burger, which Sam Sifton called a “true in-and-out pleasure on its soft bun.” Don’t skimp on the excellent, “salty and firm” fries either.
