Before we address Dick Cheney's accusation that President Obama is "dithering" in Afghanistan, let's get something straight.
Cheney has only three priorities in life, in this order:
1. Himself
2. His family
3. His bank account
There is nothing self-sacrificing, patriotic or remotely God-fearing about this man, who accomplished one thing no one thought possible in eight years as vice president.
He made Dan Quayle and Spiro Agnew look good by comparison.
Cheney's attempt at pressuring the president to send 80,000 more troops to Afghanistan rings particularly hollow, as one conservative Republican points out. Former Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., called Cheney out on it.
"My sense is that we have an obligation to support our generals in the field, to give them the resources they need to accomplish the mission," Santorum said. "That was not done by the prior administration. Let's be very clear about that. They put their own political imprint on the Afghan strategy."
He's right. In 2008, when the generals asked the Bush administration for more troops for Afghanistan, the request was denied.
In December 2005, Bush and Cheney reduced forces in the country by about 15 percent despite warnings that there weren't enough troops to do the mission.
The fact is, Bush and Cheney saw Afghanistan only as a stepping stone to their plan to attack Iraq, topple Saddam Hussein and make Iraq an American stronghold in the Middle East.
Afghanistan was an inconvenience.
It's really quite obvious that Cheney and other right wingers want to revise history and make it look as if a Republican administration was doing everything right until the crazy Democrats took over.
Sorry, but we're not buying it. Obama will decide what to do on his schedule, not yours.
And Dick?
Remember what you said to Pat Leahy on the Senate floor?
Back atcha, man.
