"It is irresponsible for the government that has failed to eradicate such inhuman and brutal acts for over a decade in the east to slowly allow them to spread to the rest of the country"
(CONGO-KIN) Following reports of increasing acts of sexual violence in the provinces of Kasai Occidental and Katanga as it has also been recently published on "digitalcongo.net, MJPC Community Affairs Director Makuba Sekombo issued the following statement:

"It is irresponsible for the government that has failed to eradicate such inhuman and brutal acts for over a decade in the east to slowly allow them to spread to the rest of the country. MJPC condemns the spread of the most barbarous acts of sexual violence in other provinces of Congo and calls on the Congolese government to immediately banish its inhumane policy of rewarding individidus accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity "

The transmission of these growing atrocities in other provinces of the Congo, is not surprising at all! Acccording to Mr. Sekombo "one does not need a degree in criminal justice to understand that if you reward those accused of committing sexual violence against women and children by appointing them to high levels governmental posts or dignify them with promotions to higher ranks in the army, you encourage others to do the same thing. The message is clear. "You can kill innocent people, rape women and children and become a general in the Congolese Army." he added

The problems of sexual violence in Congo are likely to persist as long as the government does not recognize that it is shooting itself in feet by rewarding, promoting, protecting and defending those accused of committing these heinous acts.

To the fullest extent possible, "the Congolese government should be held accountable for supporting the kind of conditions that encourage people to commit these kinds of unspeakable acts against women and children"
