Canada's Afghanistan mission!

The Canadian mission to Afghanistan began in October 2001 after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and on the pentagon complexes on September 11.

To date Canada has lost 132 Canadian soldiers including one diplomat, one of the soldiers was Captain N. Goddard the first Canadian women killed in a combat role since WW2. Capt. Goddard was in the artillery corps. Reading my many sources of information, I was saddened to learn that yet another Canadian Trooper was killed by an insidious IED or Improvised Explosive Device.

What can I say about IED's. Why are they used? Well, they are used to cause terror and to destroy the moral of the soldier or airmen on the ground. What the insurgents (the Terrorists) don't know is that, we Canadians are not quitters, unlike what the NDP would have us believe that we are losing the battle there. Its the complete opposite, Canadians are making a difference along with the British, Americans and the nations that are there.

There is some controversy over some countries not allowing there troops to take an active role in the mission. Germany for example can't take an aggressive stance only a defensive one, meaning only if the are attacked the can fight back. Case in point is the situation from a few months ago with one of their fuel tanker that they called a US air strike to take the treat out. When the US hit the trucks they landed up killing some innocent Afghans, which brought world outrage. The thing is the German commander acted in the best interest of his men, which in my view should be commended .

How will this end? well that's a hard one to answer due to every news outlet out there goes on the fact that Afghanistan is the Grave Yard of Nations, which it seems that they rather believe that history will repeat it self in this case. Afghanistan will be won out when the politicians grow a set of big brass ones and stop trying to appease the nay sayers. What I say is lift the Rules of Engagement and let the troops do there jobs. To the Canadian Government, send a division of Canadian Soldiers there and let them do what they do best and that is to make war on these backwards terrorists and insurgents.
