Out Music supports and praises members of the LGBT (Lesbian/Gay/Bi-sexual/Transgender) community for their talents an not their sexual orientations and the Out Music Awards honour those musicians. Musicians such as Melissa Etheridge, Sir Elton John, George Michael, K.D. Lang, Michael Stipe, and Lance Bass, TV personalities Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O’Donnell, Wanda Sykes, and Neil Patrick Harris came out after they had become successful; but artists who came out before that success have had to struggle with the somewhat homophobic entertainment industry, striving to prove that they too belong among the best in music.
