For an entire week Democratic Senator Harry Reid’s office has been trying to get a Republican member of the Senate to “co-sponsor for an utterly non-controversial resolution honoring the legacy and role of Hispanic media.”
As has become common practice in this Congress, the Democrat kept waiting for the Republicans to join in, and the Republicans decided they like being punks instead.
Then on Tuesday after realizing he was waiting for nothing, Reid along with other Democrat Senators passed the resolution designating October 25 through October 31, 2009, the "National Hispanic Media Week" in honor of the Latino Media of America.
This was another blown opportunity to falsely show Latino Americans that the Republican Party cares about them (even though it does not).
There really is no bad side to sponsoring this resolution.
The Huffington Post reported:
Just last month, for instance, North Carolina's Republican and Democratic senators (Richard Burr and Kay Hagan, respectively) introduced a resolution congratulating "the High Point Furniture Market on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary as a leader in home furnishing".
The Republicans rather pass a resolution honoring furniture, than Latino media.
The Latino population has steadily moved away from the Republican Party due to the anti-immigration rhetoric by its Congress members and the right-wing media.
Well here’s hoping no Latino person was paying attention to this move by the right. Or if they did pay attention, here’s hoping they forget by vote casting time.
