Aviation accidents in Egypt

For more than three decades, aviation has seen many of the Egyptian aviation accidents that claimed the lives of hundreds

Most of these accidents suffered by the national airline aircraft Egypt Air contrast to the last incident, which involved a plane owned by the Egyptian private airline.


In the second of January 1971 went down a plane belonging to Egypt to fly over the sand dunes at a distance of six kilometers from the airport runway on landing in the Libyan capital Tripoli, killing all crew members, composed of eight members and passengers of the eight.


Following the incident two years later hit the Russia-made aircraft, an Ilyushin 18 belonging to Egypt Air mountain as it approached the capital of Nicosia, Cyprus, killing 37 people.


The same year saw another air disaster, but a plane belonging to Libyan Arab Airlines was on a flight between Tripoli and Cairo, carrying 106 passengers and has lost its way over Egyptian airspace in February and was intercepted by Israeli warplanes over the Sinai Peninsula, which was occupied by the Israeli army and then the shooting down.


In December 1976 crash of a Boeing to EgyptAir Bmahlj near the Thai capital Bangkok, was killed in the incident, the 52 passengers and 20 people on the ground.


The Egypt Air also has a date with another disaster in the November 23, 1985 and this time was different somehow started with the kidnapping, where the Boeing 737 to Valletta, Malta and after hours of negotiations the Egyptian special forces stormed the plane.


The clash took place inside the plane where the kidnappers threw several grenades, killing two crew members, with 58 passengers, six of the 90 passengers were held hostage on board.


The most prominent of the disaster in aviation history is the Egyptian plane crash Boeing Egypt in October 1999 after taking off from New York airport, killing 217 people.


In May 2002, when a commuter plane operated by Egypt Air, such as airport landing the Tunisian capital, killing 15 people and wounding 49 others.

The last of those disasters that plane, which crashed in the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh and led to the deaths of 135 tourists a Frenchman and another 13 people are members of the crew of the Egyptian plane
