What in the world happened is a common question going through the minds of Puerto Rican police and FBI agents today as they try to figure out what led to the monstrous fire at a fuel storage facility near San Juan, Puerto Rico. Firefighters have officially extinguished the inferno as it could be seen at its height yesterday for miles. There were several hundred firefighters dispatched to the scene and when they arrived they were greeted by an explosion that reported a 2.8-magnitude on the Richter scale; the measurement scale for earthquakes.
What’s being deliberated at this juncture in time is whether or not the fire and explosion of the fuel tanks was an accident or the work of an arsonist. The fire ignited 17 of the 29 fuel tanks at the facility and cast a ghastly, thick smoke cloud over the area. As officials are reluctant to call the area a “crime scene” yet, they have found several near by tunnels that were full of graffiti that illustrated a massive fire that are making police think there is an arsonist on the loose.
The fire didn’t lead to any injures or deaths, but did force nearly 600 people to spend the night in a local shelter. However, the government at this time is most fearful about the current quality of the air that Puerto Rican citizens are breathing because the fuel tanks do have several harmful chemicals added to them. To make matters worse, all of the 600 inhabitants that spent the night in the shelter were forced to be vaccinated with the H1N1 shot as a preventive measure.
As police and FBI agents continue to investigate into this serious matter, I have essentially come to the conclusion that this is most likely the work of an arsonist. We have seen this type of scene far too many times especially within California and its getting really old. What is so fascinating about starting stuff on fire when by doing this you point countless lives, homes and animals in harms way? This may sound a little extreme, but arsonists should be punished by their favorite fascination, fire! Maybe if these clowns were exposed to the pain and suffering fire can cause to someone, they might change their perspective and hobbies to something a little safer.
