The day has finally arrived! I absolutely love baseball, and the culmination of a great season is here. A great matchup, for sure!
The last (and only) time that the Yankees and Phillies have met in the world series was back in 1950. I don't see New York sweeping the Phillies in four games, like they did in that classic series, but I do look forward to the Yanks taking home top prize from this meeting, as well!
It's no secret that both teams have SERIOUS fans, and the series is going to be very exciting. And, unlike the defending champs, the Yankees have had six years to thirst for a world series win.
The only two spots I can think of where the Phillies have a slight edge may be in right field and center field. While I personally like Melky, as he did rebound from his slump, I do think the Phillies have a slight edge. The same is true in center field, as Swisher is very capable, but Werth has come back from a wrist injury to be named on the all star team in his very first season as a regular! Other than those spots, the Yankees have an edge, if ever so slight.
All in all, the two teams are very similar in talent, and I believe there will be a fight-to-the-finish atmosphere during the entire series. With both teams being great at end of game saves, and each team having huge power hitters, the winner of this series will truly deserve the title of Best in Baseball!
Later today will find me on the couch with some popcorn enjoying America's great national pastime. Gooooooo Yankees!!
