Political Payback? *F* Bomb Slipped Into Veto Message

SAN FRANCISCO --

If you read between the lines of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's veto of a bill by San Francisco Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, it spells out a common, but crude, phrase.

Reading down the first letters of each line, the Republican governor's message emerges: "f--- you."

The letter regarding Assembly Bill 1176 comes after Ammiano, a Democrat, engaged in a raw outburst against Schwarzenegger earlier this month at Democratic fundraiser in San Francisco.

Governor's spokesman Aaron McLear said the four-letter message is "a strange coincidence."

"When you veto so many bills, something like this is bound to happen," McLear said.

Ammiano's spokesman, Quintin Mecke, accused the governor of "hurting the city of San Francisco" to make a political point.

"Kudos to the governor for his creative use of coincidence," Mecke said.

The bill in question was a relatively routine measure meant to clean up the Port of San Francisco.

McLear pointed to other veto messages that spell out innocuous words like "poet" or "soap."

Ammiano's office seemed unwilling to engage in further escalation, saying of this apparent feud that it's willing "to call it even."

Maybe Schwarzenegger enjoys hidden messages. Hopefully he's not playing too many crossword puzzles or word searches these days. California is having some serious budget and economic problems that need his attention.

I agree with you...but, Dear Arnold holds this state hostage...he won't pass a bill unless he gets his way....and he is the one that caused a lot of the problems here in this state. He has cut so much from many needy positions and businesses and he blames everyone else for it all...he doesn't take the blame for anything...
