90 killed, 230 people injured in Peshawar blast

PESHAWAR: At least 90 people, including women and children, were killed and more than 200 injured in a powerful car bomb explosion here on Wednesday in the congested Meena Bazaar of the north-west Pakistan.
The explosion was the deadliest in the history of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) which is under the sever grip of suicide attacks.
The explosion was so powerful that its bang was heard far away from the explosion’s spot which jolted the surrounding area creating a big panic among the residents of the area.
The injured were shifted to a nearby Leading Reading Hospital (LRH) were the emergency was announced and all the staff of hospital were deployed for the treatment of injured people.
The explosion destroyed at least 60 shops and 6 houses completely and a nearby mosque Umme Habiba.
Soon after the explosion the security forces reached to the spot and cordoned off the area and called the fire brigade to extinguish the fire. Apart from the rescue team, people with self help also started rescue work and taken out bodies from the rubbles of buildings and rushed them to hospital on their motorcycles and cars because the ambulances were not reached to the spot so quickly.
Hospital sources said that they had received scores of injured people, mostly women and children, and are being given the best treatment to save the life these people but some of them are critically injured which may increase the number of dead.
The bazaar where the explosion occurred is all the time busy from women and children as it is popular of its cheap shopping and where you can find every thing of daily life. It is very congested area and is surrounded by Khyber, Qissa Khawani and sadder bazaars.
Soon after the explosion senior legislatives of the provincial government arrived and ordered the treatment for the injured people.
Minister of information for NWFP government told media that they would not lay down arms in front of terrorists and would poll out their roots from the country that had brought the agenda to destroy the entire country and particularly the Paktuns belt across the border in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He maintained that the government had started the operation Rahi Nijat, the mother of all battles, against the local and foreigner militants who have made South Waziristan Agency as their base camp and targeting Pakistan Army and innocent Pakistanis, to crush them for ever.
He also said that in reaction they are targeting the settle areas for the country particularly Peshawar.
Senior minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour said that those people who are doing such activities had no religion, no country and no space for the services of humanity. He also said that they had made all arrangement to counter such acts but the terrorists are so well trained that they could target every place.
Inspector General Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) told on the occasion that up to 100 kg explosive material was used in the explosions planted in Alto car which was parked in the busiest bazaar of Peshawar.
It is pertinent to mention here that north-west frontier is under the sever grip of terrorist attacks and suicide attacks which killed hundred of innocent people. Despite the human losses it also strongly affected all the parts of life and there is fear among the residents of Peshawar.
