He has actively made big money available in concerted drive to help overhaul the failing American education system.
For starters,his charity arm. the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is reported by The Business Insider,to have splashed US$250 million a year to support US President Barack Obama's CHANGE agenda for improving elementary and secondary schools nationwide.
The US administration and the Gates Foundation are reported to be working closely as new partners of change on experiments like "Race to the Top" program.
Bill Gates,who stepped aside from Microsoft to focus on work in the foundation has apparently given top priority for US educational reform.
His two key education experts - Margo Rogers and James Shelton - are helping US Education Secretary Arne Duncan as Duncan's chief of staff and assistant deputy secretary respectively.
According to Vicki Phillips, the Gates Foundation's director of education, the foundation shares Obama's priorities on American education overhaul.
