The title of Patel is the second most popular name in Britain after Singh and a joke of Prince Philip backfired on one of his own men. It seems the Prince was joking with Atul Patel, an NRI businessman who was one of the invitees to the 400-odd strong Indian community of Britain. They had gathered in honor of the Indian President Pratibha Patil who is on a state visit to Buckingham Palace at the invitation of the Queen. The joke of the Prince seemed to suggest that all those with the surname of Patel are related!! While Atul Patel himself chose to ignore it and laughed it off as nothing but a joke, it has not been taken in the right spirit by Graham Smith, spokesman of the Republic – which is a group that campaigns to abolish monarchy. He has condemned the uttering of the Prince.
