Democratic Candidate: Who needs Foreign Policy Experience, I have a Sister That Can See Syria From Her House

Martha Coakley

Outside of Massachusetts, many of you have probably never heard of Martha Coakley. Who? Martha Coakley is the Attorney General for the state of Massachusetts and a Democratic candidate for the open seat left by Senator Ted Kennedy.

Nothing wrong with that. So Far.

But being that one of the most critical aspects and responsibilities of being a US Senator entails having Foreign Policy experience, I think this is where Coakley may have bitten off more than she could chew.

During a recent television interview, Coakley was asked about her Foreign Policy experience and her qualifications to meet the criteria for such a critical & important job. Her answer will leave you dumbfounded. Here is part of the exchange between her and the interviewer:

Question: Mrs Coakley, you have said you don't have any Foreign Policy experience which is probably the #1 job in being a US Senator. The responsibility lies in being in the US Senate. Is this going to be a learning curve for you? If so, how big of a learning curve is this going to be? Have you ever traveled abroad? How often and what did you learn when you did?

Coakley: I have a sister who lives overseas and she's been in England and now she lives in the Middle East. I spend a lot of time on my own traveling cause I'm interested in it. Less so as Attorney General. My responsibilities don't take me overseas.

In other words, this woman feels that she can sit face to face with any foreign leader because her sister lives overseas...I am not making this up...

If this woman by some miracle gets elected to the US Senate, there needs to be an investigation. Her Republican rival, Scott Brown is a member of the Army National Guard and has served tours of duty abroad. Just on that alone, Coakley should issue an apololy and step down from the race.

As you would expect, when a goof of this magnitude is spoken by any Democrat or Liberal running for office, there will be deathening silence from the media.

We all know what Sarah Palin was put through when she was asked a similiar Foreign Policy question and her credentials. Her answer was parodied and mocked by every single Blog, News Channel, Comedy show, from day one till the Presidential race was over. So why hasn't the media informed the public that this woman may lack the necessary experience to perform her job?

The disparity in coverage comes about because Sarah Palin is Conservative and a big threat to the liberal agenda. The other is a Northeast Liberal Democrat that supports everything that this current administration is pushing.

Could you imagine if this woman had to make any Foreign policy decision? Need not worry, I'll e-mail my sister. Hey sis, what is going on with Pakistan? Have you seen Osama anywhere around?

The blackout of this story is just one in many examples of the media double standards that goes unchecked and unchallenged except for a handful of reporters.

If anything, it is a sad commentary on where this country is headed. This is what this country is coming to. Having a sister living in the Middle east almost gets you a seat in the US Senate and a seat in the House Armed Services Committee.

Red, this lady better not win the US Senate Seat. Now I see why Gov. Patrick was attempting to have that Mass. state law changed in which the governor could appoint a senator after Sen. Kennedy's passing. However, if the state of Massachusetts was dumb enough to vote for gay marriage, then they are probably dumb enough to vote her into the US Senate. In regards to Sarah Palin, McCain's campaign team was the worst campaign team ever and they did not prepare her on how to deal with the national media. They just threw her to the wolves.

maybe martha coakley's is planning on being an undercover spy for martha, reporting to her various world events. i think both sarah and martha suck, but martha might have more connections to get into the senate, if she makes it. it is all about connections, not really who can do the job well and who sucks. just look at the business world.

how many Senators had foreign policy experience BEFORE they got into office?
Reply By Redhanded101 Redhanded101 | about 1 month ago
Many have had strong Foreign Affairs credentials developed while serving in the US military or other elected positions. It's one thing if you don't have any experience but yet try to somehow say that by having a sister in the Middle east that gives you experience, than to just come straight out and say, no, I dont.

In these troubled times we live in today, it is critical that most of our Senators have some experience in Foreign Affairs.

What's the Ratio of Republican Senators?

With Foreign Policy experience TO Without Foreign Policy experience.

Oh and Sarah Palin was running for the office of the Vice President, not the Senate. The Senate is far more focused on domestic policy than foreign policy. Hence the scrutiny.

you don't apples to oranges.

you didn't need to bring Palin into this, Coakley's rival was enough to make the point.

That's more along the line of apples to apples.

A80,

The report was intended to draw closer scrutiny on why the media chooses to report a similiar story in two different fashions or at times not report it at all when it involves a Democrat or Liberal. In this case, the story line centers around a Liberal Democrat and her ridiculous assertion that somehow having a sister living in the Middle East pads her Foreign Policy resume. SNL would have a field day with this if it ever makes the rounds.

What is relevant is how the story gets blacked out.Has Katie Couric invited Martha Coakley to an interview to explain to us how this all works?

It insults the intelligence of the people who will be asked to vote for her.

Red,

I know what you are saying in the article, I get that.

What you don't get is that this is not such a big deal, beyond Mass. and D.C..

Palin running for Vice President was running for an office that is far more influential than a Seante seat.

There is no media scrutiny beyond what is being covered because the Senate seat in Mass. is no where near the same as the Vice President's seat.

A80,

Any Senator has more political clout than a VP. This is another media blackout to save another Democrat from an embarrasing situation. This is not just any seat, this is Ted Kennedy's old seat, so it is very significant as to takes over the reigns.

The very liberal media will not cover this much in the same way it refused to cover John Edwards and his philandering during the Presidential campaign.

It's called D-O-U-B-L-E S-T-A-N-D-A-R-D-S.
