During the past few years candidate Barack Obama and many Democrat leaders in Congress relished the opportunity to remind voters of what they believed was a delayed government response to Hurricane Katrina by President Bush and his disaster relief team. Although much of the blame should have been directed at the preparedness steps taken by the Democratic Mayor and Governor, the media preferred to jump on the Democrats’ bandwagon.
Now that President Obama has declared the H1N1 Virus outbreak a National Emergency, it clears that these same media outlets are giving the president and his administration a free pass. Despite the fact there are severe shortages of the H1N1 vaccine throughout the country and the peak period for infections is already upon us, journalists in the media seem unable to confront the administration about the reasons behind these shortages.
The administration, to its credit, identified and went public with the potential threat of the H1N1 virus several months ago and drew the necessary attention to this new virus strain. So it’s puzzling to understand why the administration has the country woefully unprepared to combat the virus with shortages and delays in delivery of the requisite vaccine.
Officials at CDC (Center of Disease Control) continue to report the spread of the virus throughout the country, including close to 100 deaths. How many deaths or cases of H1N1 must it take for the media or Congress to investigate the Obama administration’s inadequate response to this “National Emergency”?
