The driver of the ambassador of France in Cape Verde, Fernando Delgado Fortes, was killed Tuesday in city of Praia, The Cape Verde islands, with five shots at a close range, two of them in the head.

According to the National Police, the victim who is approximately 40 years old was dead when arrived at the emergency services at the Agostinho Neto Hospital around 06:37 AM (local time).

Fernando Fortes was attacked early this morning, after exercising in Chã de Areia Gymnasium.

At the site, there were visible signs of a violent crime, with bloodstains all over. Law enforcement personnel surrounded the crime scene and collected evidence to be processed.

The victim was murdered by a hooded individual who was waiting near the site where he was shot dead.

Law enforcement officers on the ground have collected some evidence, such as nine millimeter bullets for preliminary evaluation.

As a result, this crime is causing public concerns since the family members have confirmed that the victim is a brother of Joao da Rosa, a local businessman who barely escaped an attempted murder with a firearm on the island of Fogo.

Because of limited information provided by the law enforcement officers, the community at large is still waiting for more information and clarification.

After contacted by Lusa News Agency in Praia, the Embassy of France declined to comment or to make any statement considering the nature of the crime.

Autopsy result

The autopsy report indicates that the cause of death is head trauma caused by projectiles.

However, the public in general still is not aware of what motivated this murder. The case is already under the jurisdiction of national law enforcement agencies.
