#1 Draft Pick Blake Griffin Out For 6 Weeks

When you had thought nothing else could go wrong for one of the worst NBA's franchises of all time, the Los Angeles Clippers, tragedy strikes once again for the team. This year's #1 draft pick, Blake Griffin, will be out with a stress fracture injury he sustained in the final preseason game against the New Orleans Hornets. The accident occurred when he landed awkwardly after he had dunked the ball. During the offseason, the Clippers had thought that Griffin would be the final piece that would get them back into the playoff hunt this season. Hopefully, the rest of the team can rally together and prove to the rest of the NBA that they no longer choose to be a doormat any more. History needs to change for LA's second team. The Clippers have only won one playoff series since they moved to Los Angeles in 1984. Clipper fans, be patient and wait for him to come back in six weeks because he had proven last year that he was the best player at the collegiate level and he was by far the consensus #1 pick in this season's draft.

Its a shame they have to wait even longer for Griffin to start turning things around for them.

Hopefully he could recover on the soonest.

The Clippers have had some terrible luck over the past several years. Remember what happened to Shaun Livingston? That was just devastating. The guy was on his way to being one of the top point guards in the league. Now Griffin out for 6 weeks? Hopefully he has a speedy recovery. If everyone stays healthy, I think it's a very solid team. Baron Davis, Marcus Camby, etc. are all very solid players. Plus Eric Gordon is a rising star. Throw Griffin in the mix, and watch out.

They'll never be consisently good because no one wants to play second fiddle in LA. As soon as they can, all of the young talent will flee the Clippers. And how has Dunleavy managed to keep his job this long? They won 19 games last year!

I'm also surprised that Dunleavy is still around. However, I disagree that all their talent will leave. If the team actually performs well on the court and has success, the players will stick around.

Oh, like how Mark Jackson, Danny Manning and Ken Norman did in '93? It always, always, always happens; They get a new crop of young talent and bring in veterans like Sam Cassell to compliment their skills. They make one playoff run and then the veterans leave, they ineitably trade away someone, which leaves just enough talen to win 25 games the next season. Eic Gordon doesn't want to be the next Corey Magette.

So you're saying that hypothetically, even if the team can get past the second round in the playoffs at some point within the next few years, everyone will still leave? I don't think so. Sure the team has performed very badly in the past, but if the franchise can transform itself into a winning brand, it wouldn't make sense for the players to want out (unless there are some contract/money issues of course).

The Clippers will always be crap because Donald Sterling is one of the worst owners in sports. Instead of keeping a core group of players, he breaks up the team every 3-5 years so that he can always stay in the lottery and keep expenses low. In a couple years, when the contracts of Gordon and Al Thornton expire, he will not resign them.
