Just nine couples are left on “Dancing with the Stars” and after the double eliminations over the next two weeks nearly half of the dancers will be gone.

This week brought the first ever competition style marathon dance – the Mambo – where all nine couples would perform on stage at the same time being dismissed one by one until one couple was left. The couple would receive points from 2-10 depending on when they were eliminated with the first couple receiving two points and the winner 10 points.

The first couple on the dance floor was Mya and Dmitriy who performed the Jitterbug. The pair used props of a broom and a feather duster as a part of their dance which did not please head judge Len Goodman who said that props were the last resort of the untalented. All three judges agreed that there was something lacking in the dance but the elements the couple did perform were great. My and Dmitriy socred a 24 on their Jitterbug and earned nine points in the competition Mambo for a total of 33 points.

Next were Melissa and Mark who performed a Waltz. Mark Ballas is the son of professional dancers and solicited the help of his mother Shirley to aid Melissa in her Waltz. While the judges agreed that the dance was a bit lacking in technique for week six of the competition; Len did say Melissa was elegant and had good musicality. Melissa and Mark received a score of 20 for their Waltz and four points on the competition Mambo for a total of 24 points.

Mark and Lacey performed a Jitterbug that had the audience clapping and cheering enthusiastically at the end and the judges praising it as well. Carrie Ann called it marvelous and Bruno pronounced it truly spectacular. Len said that sometimes less is more but not in the Jutterbug. Mark and Lacey tied their best score with a 26 for the Jitterbug and six points for the competition Mambo for a total of 32 points.

After seeing red for the past two weeks Aaron and Karina performed an elegant Waltz that Carrie Ann called beautiful and gorgeous. Bruno said that the boy had become a gentleman and Len said that Aaron danced with maturity an partnered well. Aaron and Karina scored 25 points for their Waltz and eight points on their Mambo for a total score of 33 points.

Michael and Anna performed a Waltz that Michael hoped would see favour in the eyes of his fans. While Carrie Ann called the dance charming, she and Bruno were not as pleased with the performance as Len who thought the dance was, “really, really good” which earned Michael his first eight from Len and a total score of 20 from the judges for the Waltz and only two points for their Mambo for a total score of 22 points.

Kelly got the all clear from the doctor after suffering a sprained ankle last week and she and partner Louis Van Amstel performed a Jitterbug that the judges felt was a little safe and flat; they also agreed that the dance was cute and fun. Despite scoring only a 20 Kelly said that she had, “so much fun”. Kelly and Louis scored five points on their Mambo for a total of 25 points.

Louie and Chelsie also performed a Jitterbug that brought mixed reviews. Judges agreed that parts of the dancer were fantastic, there were also spots where it was lacking due to losing the music or steps. Louie and Chelsie scored 21 on their Jitterbug and three points on their Mambo for a total of 23 points.

Returning from a bout with the flue Derek and Joanna performed a Waltz that tied them for the highest solo performance of the night. Bruno compared the dance to like watching a butterfly, beautiful and weightless and Len called it the best Waltz of the night. Joann and Derek scored a 26 on their Waltz and wont the Mambo competition earning them 10 points for the best score of the night – 36 points.

Donny and Kym were the last couple to perform a solo dance. Choosing the Jitterbug the judges praised Donny’s ability to entertain a crowd and work a room; Bruno called the dance as looking like a steam engine trying to keep up with a bullet train. Donny and Kym scored a 24 on their Jitterbug and seven points on their Mambo for a total of 31 points.

On the results show Tuesday two couples will be eliminated. The couple with the lowest score will go home and then the two couples with the next lowest scores will compete in the dance off with the judges deciding who will go home. Taylor Swift will also perform on the show.

Michael and Anna – 22
Louie and Chelsie - 23

Melissa and Mark – 24
Kelly and Louis – 25
Donny and Kym - 31
Mark and Lacey - 32

Mya and Dmitriy – 33
Aaron and Karina – 33
Joanna and Derek - 36
