I just want to share my experiences. I was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My parents are both Indonesian. The reason I was born in Malaysia because my father works in Malaysia. I had a bad experienced in Malaysia. To be honest, Malaysian are racist but not all of them are racist. In Malaysia, there are many people such as Malay, Chinese and Indian but they live in different social group. People like Chinese and Indian don't have a good social relation with Malay. They often have a gap each other. We can see that many Chinese and Indian cannot speak Malay fluently. They often speak well in English. The condition is different in Indonesia. Chinese can speak Indonesian fluently. Badminton players that make Indonesian popular are Chinese. It seems that Malay and Indian don't like Chinese because they are rich than Malay and Indian. Another fact is although my family are Indonesian, but we have eyes like Chinese people. So, since my brother and I was so young, people often called us Chinese. My father looks like Chinese while my mother looks like Malay. But when they speak, people started to realize that both of them are not Malaysian. I think for Malaysian, the lowest social group in Malaysia is Indonesian. I am very sad everytime I see many Indonesian become victims in Malaysia. Indonesian are hard worker and they work abroad for their family in Indonesia. I see many Indonesian that become victims and most of the people who became victims have Chinese boss in Malaysia. I try to analyze and understand the situation. Suddenly I remember the tragedy in 1998 when Soeharto's felt from his position. Soeharto acted like he hated Chinese and communist. But, Indonesian people knew the fact that he had many Chinese as his business partner. He also prohibited Chinese tradition, movie, song and communism in Indonesia. He spreaded hateness to Chinese and Chinese live in fear at that time. Everything exploded in 1998. Many Chinese became victims of the tragedy in 1998. Many Chinese in 1998 runaway from Indonesia and some of them maybe have siblings in Malaysia. I think the main reason Chinese in Malaysia tortured Indonesian because they hated Indonesian that responsible for tragedy in 1998 where many Chinese become victims. But now Soeharto was died and Indonesia become a democracy country since Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono became the president in Indonesia. Everyone have mistakes in the past so let us learn to forgive the past. When I entered primary school, they called me Indon because my parents are Indonesian. I told them I was Malaysian and I was born in Malaysia but they didn't care and keep laughed at me. I felt so stress because Malaysian humiliate Indonesian frequently. Actually Malaysia and Indonesia are the same. The only difference is that Malaysian people get independence without so many fight from England while Indonesian struggle so much from Netherlands to get independence. I also know that August 31, 1957 was Malaysian independence day while Indonesian independence day was on August 17, 1945. I can defended myself because I had good achievement in primary school. Do Malaysian people know about their history?? A long years ago, many people from Nusantara (Indonesia) came to Semenanjung Melayu because they lose in battle. So, they make a new place for them called Malacca. Beside that, we know there is a place called Negeri Sembilan. From the history, we also knew that people in Negeri Sembilan had a relationship with people in Padang, Sumatera, Indonesia. Before Malaysia become a prosperous country, many of Malaysian people studied in Indonesia. Today Malaysia have many beautiful buildings because many Indonesian work in Malaysia. Do Malaysian don't feel ashamed for underestimating Indonesian people?? When I was 12 years old, I must decided whether to be a Malaysian or Indonesian. After all the bad experiences, I decided to be Indonesian. Now, I live in Bandung, Indonesia with my mother and brother. My father are still in Malaysia because of financial factor. I miss my father so much. I hope my experience can be a good lesson for everyone.
