Afghanistan Matters Because of Pakistan

Kathleen Troia "K.T." McFarland who served in national security posts in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations is frequent contributor to the FOX Forum and Foxnews.com's "Strategy Room."

K. T. has penned a grass roots and hands on article under OPINION in Foxnews.com's issue dated October 26, 2009. She reiterates what was reported at allvoices.com yesterday by jmsjoin and reinforced in the readers comments at http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/4489548

-whats-next-after-army-captures-pakistani-taliban-leader-haikimullahs-home-town-of-kotkai-as-pakistan-is-understandably-on-edge

K.T. concludes by saying that, it’s become a mantra that we have to "win" in Afghanistan before we tackle Pakistan. It’s really the other way around -- we need to help Pakistan defeat the Taliban in or our efforts in Afghanistan -- no matter how significant or successful -- will be for nothing.

Also (APP) Associated Press Pakistan has reported from ISLAMABAD that- Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Sunday visited Wana, South Waziristan Agency to meet the field commanders and troops deployed in the area.
During the day-long visit, General Kayani appreciated the morale and spirit of the troops employed in the operation Rah-e-Nijat. He said that the Army is not conducting operations against any tribe or area, but against handful of terrorists who have not only destroyed the peace and tribal traditions of the area but have also made the majority of the people hostage to their anti-state agenda. He reiterated that the operations are being conducted by the Pakistani Armed Forces without any outside support..
