Regardless of the recent attacks on Fox News by WH critics and the Left, the Fox News Network continues to bulldoze through the competition and dominate the ratings. Never before have more people turned to Fox News for their daily dose of political news & opinion. Despite the best efforts of the WH to silence and soften the oft times critical tone at Fox News, the network continues to flourish and stand alone as a behemoth amongst the news industry.

This is not by happenstance, The right leaning network appeals to a broad swath of viewers. Conservatives & Moderates as well as Liberals all tune in.

A Gallup poll released today, backs this up. 40 percent of Americans consider themselves Conservative, 36 percent Moderate and only 20 percent as Liberal. Within this same poll, 45% of Americans feel there is too much regulation of business & industry. 42% of the people polled feel that labor unions should have less influence.

These political attitudes are in direct correlation with a lot of the issues that Fox News covers and reports on , while the other networks simply refuse to do so.

This explains a big part of the reason that many of the Liberal owned newspapers have been going bankrupt and losing subscribers by the day. People have become frustrated and grown weary of the inability of the mainstream media to report the facts. Opting instead in many instances to simply sugarcoat negative news concerning this WH. And why not? The President has traded countless interviews and appearances on these networks in return for favorable coverage. David Letterman, Jay Leno and 60 Minutes have become sort of the home away from home for Mr. Barack Obama.

The one place this WH has not been able to get their arms around has been Fox News. Despite making the top 5 on the White House's enemy list, Fox News has not altered or softened any of it's coverage of the President or the White House.

In an unprecedented move, and one that went against the grain, the pool of regular news channels, (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN) that covers the White House, recently backed Fox News and threatened to all walk out if Fox News was excluded from the pool. A message that resonated loud and clear and sent a warning to any future attempts by the WH to try and isolate and demonize any other news outlet.

Perhaps emboldened by the tactics of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and Cristina Kirchner in Argentina, who have both waged thier own wars on the free press and have shut down countless tv stations, this WH is using similiar tactics to control the message.

Take President Cristina Kirchner of Argentina for example. She blames the recent loss of her Wing of the Peronist Party on bad press coverage. The Clarin media company who was once a staunch supporter of Kirchner, has now become her critic amidsts the cries of the populace who blame a faling economy on her policies. Sound familiar?

Kirchner has unsuccesfully tried to intimidate the news organization by raiding it's headquarters and forcing thru new legislation to create audiovisual boards to regulate content.

In her recent WSJ article, Mary O'Grady reports:

These laws also grants the executive control over all licensing of the radio spectrum and reserves at least two-thirds of it for state-owned and nongovernmental broadcasters approved by the executive. There is concern that Mrs. Kirchner is now preparing to take over the most important domestic supplier of newsprint and to begin using import licensing to control access to foreign supplies.

If this scenario sounds all too familiar, you now know why the WH wants to destroy the most powerful and influential news network in the world.

It is the same reason every other government has done it. They want to silence their critics in times of unrest from the populace. They want to make sure that their abuse of power remains unchecked. They fear the impact that Tea Partiers and Town Hall Protestors have on others when dissent is reported. Much like in the US, the people in Argentina became weary and afraid of the "Enemys List" the president kept and used to gather intelligence information from.

It is happening real time in Argentina and Venezuela. Don't think for a minute that it can't happen here. As long as Fox News remains the most powerful and biggest news channel in the world, you can rest assured that this WH will do it's very best to see to it that they become Fair and Balanced Only to them.

And if you look at some of the coverage of what mainstream media covers when, for example, somebody like a Hugo Chavez shuts down television stations, he calls them illegitimate. Now, I'm not suggesting that this White House believes that they are...

What exactly has the WH done to destroy Fox News, except criticize it?

Did Bush criticize and shut out NBC and MSNBC and the New York Times? Yeah he did.

In fact, as Bush was shutting out NBC, he was saying that he was being patriotic by shutting them out.

Obama doesn't have to look to another country to see how to deal with the media, there are plenty of examples right here.

Obama can't even exclude Fox from one interview, yeah right he's going to take over the networks.

Your first sentence should be "because of", not "regardless of", that way it'd be a little more accurate.

On a slightly different note, all those guys in that photo look so much younger than they do now.

    Fifi,

That can be dangerous unless you have the utmost trust for them. It can also be one sided if all your friends are like minded. I guess if you have amix of Conservative & Liberal friends, you may get the other side of the story most of the time.

yeah. i talk with different people, some are conservative, some are liberal, and others--i am not sure.

    A80,

As I mentioned, the WH has "tried" to destroy the organization. THey have tried to damage it's reputation and belittle their status. They know that Fox news has become the most influential and powerful news network in America and for that matter the world. It is then logical for them to try and stop the messenger from delivering the message when things are not going as planned. It is a very simple proposition. Keep people in the dark and control the message. WHy do you think they have not made similiar attempts with the other news outlets? Because the rest are lockstep and actually aidding this administration push through their agenda.

Fox News has taken away the CNN & MSNBC viewership because there are millions of moderates that are tired of the State Run media ignoring the facts and not asking tough questions.

THis is no longer the Bush WH. THis is all about Obama. The bloom has come off the rose and people want answers to why the economy is still in the tank, why unemployment is still at 10%, why are we stil intent on adding trillions to our national debt and so on.

It is time to stop the campaining and start being President.

I will also add, that I am a little upset with Bill O'Reilly for being a little too nice. He tries to go out of his and give the benefit of the doubt too many times as if that is going to convince Barack Obama or anyone from the WH to come on FOX.

By the way, George Bush never went public or sent any of his goons to intimidate the free press or intentionally try to discedit them.

Bush has gone public. He threatened to prosecute NBC reporters and New york Times reporters for reporting the failure that was their Iraq War.

The news organizations called the Iraq war a civil war. They were reporting on things like how many American troops were dying. And Bush's WH called them traitors for talking about the bad news in Iraq.

The Bush white House had threatened to walk out of a debate if Keith Olbermann wasn't fired from MSNBC.

The Bush White House never gave a single interview to the New York Times, in 8 years.

The White House now has come out a called Beck and the rest of the Fox people about lying to the American people. The Bush White House came out and blasted the New York Times about telling the truth about Iraq and the secret wiretaps and the torturing and the conditions at ABU Gharaib and about secret prisons.

Actual lies from FOX NEws are being argued by Obama's WH. Truths were argued by the Bush WH.

But it's useless to tell you any of this since you're a beleiver in gut feeling and not facts.

Do the research. Find out how Bush acted before you defend him.

And do the fact checking on Fox before you defend them.

And this is probably the fourth time I'm asking you this: Want to tell me how CNN and NBC are state run?

Want to tell me exactly how Obama is a Muslim, hates white people, is the head of ACORN, is a terrorist, is the only one with "czars", is indoctrinating the school children with his speeches, because these are just some of the things Fox News have said about Obama. And this comes from the News Dpartment, not the opinion department.

A lot of people watch MTV as well, does that make MTV a good station. In the end it is still all T.V. and if you get your political advice/ make decisions based on it you are a moron.
  • Reply By Redhanded101 Redhanded101 | about 1 month ago
I imagine you might be getting yours from the Bill Maher Show?

Oh, I see. you are a live at home 30 something college grad who voted for the Bamster because MTV got you hooked on Rock the Vote.

Maybe you can shine the light on millions who rely on TV to tell them what goes on in the world.

Does it involve a crystal ball or mental telepathy? Let me know when you get the answer.
  • Reply By sfflyhalf sfflyhalf | about 1 month ago
Really? I mean maybe you were offended by the moron thing but I actually wasn't directing that at you, I was speaking about the large general public that is entrapped by the television set. But apparently you are one of them. And how could you conclude that I enjoy MTV? I was simply showing the faulty logic in your argument that since FOX has so many viewers that makes it a good station. Circular reasoning will get you nowhere my friend.

You were off by 7 years on the age. You were off on my living situtation. You were off on the media outlets I frequent (except for Maher that guy is pretty fun to watch and usually he is right). You were off on the reason I voted for Barak Hussein Obama our 44th President. Simply put you are off.

Heres an answer for the people that stick to T.V. for all that "goes on in the world." There are six major companies that own all of T.V. Every station you watch is just trying to manipulate your mind into either buying a product or an ideaology. People like T.V. because it is entertaining and is much easier than reading (hell I love it for that). The top 1% in America have taken hold of these facts and capitalized on them. Sadly most of what goes on in the world is not shown on T.V. so really if you are watching T.V. to enhance a world view you are simply fooling yourself. There are plenty of publications and news organizations outside of T.V. that take journalism seriously. I for one enjoy the New Yorker, the BBC, the New York Times, the Huffington Post, and I read the Chronicle to find out whats going on in my part of town. Now yes I know your argument will be "Oh but those are all biased sources." My answer is yes I know they are biased, but there is information in there that is simply facts and not biases. You have to be a critical and analytical thinker in order to read through the bias and get to the facts in order to make your own opinions on issues. I even like to check FOX news here and there to get a different view on issues I can't get from the previously mentioned publications.

Journalism is a lost art in this day and age of exceptional greed. I don't have all the answers for you red and you should know that. The answer is within you. No one should be allowed to shape your intelligence. No outside force is going to make you a better person. Of course along the way to making a decision within yourself about a certain issue you are going to need to read books and publications or even watch T.V. to see how other people have tackled problems, but that is all part of the human experience. We take the good from around us and try to emulate it within ourselves in order to create our individual identity.

So red I guess my answer is I don't have the answer to what is wrong with getting all of one's external information from T.V. But a narrow take on the subject is not going to help the situation. You must widened the lens on the world at times in order to understand the small parts that make up the world we live in. I'm sorry you like FOX news so much, I really am. Maybe in time you will learn to accept its place in the larger picture and begin to carve out your own. Good luck.

    Sff,

I think where you got in trouble is in assuming that I watch Fox News exclusively. I do watch some of it, but I also check into to other stations to see how they are reporting similiar stories. There are many fine news sources out there and do a good job.

THere must be something about FOX News that has the WH up in arms or else thye would not be spending so much energy trying to discount them as a viable news source.

Eventually people will figure out if what they watch on TV is credible or not. People are smart enough to figure it out. And if it turns out that Fox News is not putting out good solid news stories or is biased, people will stop watching just like they have stopped watching, MSNBC or reading the NYT.
