ESPN analyst Steve Phillips was fired Sunday night over his extramarital affair with Brooke Hundley, 22, a production assistant. A spokesman for Phillips said he "is voluntarily admitting himself to an inpatient treatment facility to address his personal issues." He checked himself into rehab on Monday and will be treated for sex addiction. He is also trying to save his marriage.
ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz stated on Monday, "Brooke Hundley is no longer working here. She was fired today."
After the three day July affair ended, it was reported Hundley was constantly calling Phillip's wife, Marni, and left her a letter describing locations of Phillip's birthmarks in intimate places. It was also reported Marni called the police on Hundley after finding the young woman in her driveway. Marni Phillips filed for divorce on September 14.
The sports cable network said in a statement, "Phillips ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways."
Phillips was promoted this year to provide color commentary in the network's premier broadcast of "Sunday Night Baseball." He joined the ESPN team in 2004. Hundley began working for ESPN in September of 2008.
Phillips, 46, took a leave of absence last Wednesday, a few days after the fling with Hundley was plastered all over the national news.
