Pakistan troops retake Taliban stronghold in Waziristan

Army captures Pakistani Taliban leader's hometown

The military recapture Hakimullah's home town of kotkai as Pakistan is understandably on edge! Pakistan Air Force Site Is Bombed

People are understandably nervous! They panic going to the market wondering where the next explosion will be? People are on edge after a string of attacks throughout Pakistan in retribution for military action in South Waziristan.

This offensive is increasingly defensive for Pakistan and all Pakistani's as Pakistan and the extremists go tit for tat. Victory hangs in the balance and can go either way or so it appears as Pakistan pounds the Taliban and closes in on Haikimullah! They are not backing down and can not as Pakistan bombs Taliban after capturing key town

I reiterate: The attack started Friday night and the Taliban backing up threats in some cases is actually bringing the fight to the Government. This is a defining moment. Now 1000,000 of the 1/2 million area residents are on the move as a result of the fighting further complicating the Governments efforts. 30,000 Government troops are taking on some 10 to 15,000 militants many of them from the Mehsud tribe, hardened, desperate to kill and on their own turf. They are closing in on Haikimullah and must kill or capture him and all his killers period!

In this mountainous terrain long avoided by the Pakistani Government at elevations from 7 to 8,000 feet this is going to be a long tough fight! In fact it is being called the mother of all battles and it will be a mother! This is the third attempt by the Pakistani Government having sued for peace and withdraw in the past. They can not fail this time!

It will a huge setback if they are not successful in fact think about it, it would be catastrophic and short of putting boots on the ground we better be doing what we can behind the scenes to make sure they succeed! I am concerned about Pakistan's nukes falling into militant hands but not like I used to be. Despite a recent increase in bombings on Government buildings specifically targeting where the attack on South Waziristan was being planned I think it will backfire and Pakistan can do this!

I am impressed with Pakistan and her military as I have said many times. The Pakistani people are in a hell of a fight themselves and the world can be proud of them. I have more trust in Pakistan's ability to deal with the Taliban and other militants than with ours. Good luck and God bless, God bless the Lashkar too they are pivotal in this!

Yeah, things are on edge. The latest attacks show the militants are in a bit of a panic about being pushed so hard and are really taking the fight to urban areas. But at the same time, it is far from over. Meanwhile Nato is doing damn all in Afghanistan. Pakistan doesn't need people to be proud of it, just to get the job done.

I know changez! I am glad to hear the militants are in disary but as you know, this is just beginning and no one can stand down but must stand up.

I believe after almost 8 years of Bush ignoring Afghnaistan when Obama makes his soon to come decision it will be the best thing to do.

I fully endorse jmsjoin's views. The sad part is our congress is draging its feet. Pakistani army needs helicopters, night vision, predator drones and the airforce needs upgradation of its fighter force.

These requests of Pakistani defence forces are long outstanding since 2003. We need to understand that they are not going to use what they have in reserve to deter a possible Indian attack; Indian Leaders never miss an opportunity to threaten Pakistan. We need to provide them latest equipment and technology and keep on replenishing it to win against the millitancy in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

This is in our own security interest and is much more economical use of
our Tax dollars rather than spending zillions on our forces in Afghanistan.

You have that right Lecia! I think we are at fault at least partially because of our action over there since the Russian era in Afghanistan.

I know Bush stupidly tried to make everyone think Iraq was the front line in the war on terror but it is Pakistan and the Afghan Border.

Thanks starsandstripes and I agre with you! We are afraid they will use our high tech stuff elsewhere or it will get in the wrong hands. It will anyway in combat defeats. They wanted drones too! I really think we should share stuff like that just monitor closely.

I know in Iraq they "lost" millions on m16's and other weapons and equipment supposedly taken by militants.

Afghan army and police are selling their United States supplied equipment to Drug & warlords and it ends up with Taliban. Our audit and public management office has that on record. Pakistan's Forces have a proud record of accounting for each and every bullet not to mention high tech expensive equipment.

I think Pakistan will finish off this menace this time because there is overwhelming support for the army's offensive....also, lashkars have not been taken into action this particular battle because Mehsud tribe has refused army's request for it and also army is keeping the sympathetic tribesmen at bay....i think lashkars will be formed after TTP has been crushed and when locals realize that things have shifted in army's favor (as it happened in Swat).

Ibrahim I posted a great video on the Lashkar about a month ago. As you pointed out they did great in the Swat and are involved here too as I heard. Thing is in order to make things easier the Mehsud's were asked to form Lashkar's to take on the Taliban but as expected they refused. Pakistan will be victorious I have faith in them!
