People rushed to get sugar in Landikotal.
The political administration on the directives of Political Agent Khyber distributed sugar bags in some of the shops to be sold on controlled prices fixed by the government here on Monday.
Twenty sugar bags were given to each shopkeeper in Landikotal to sell it to the people on Rs.60/kg, a subidar told. Totally ten shopkeepers were provided with the sugar bags to sell it to the people, he said. He also said that the specific shops selling sugar were being monitored by Khasadars.
Local people said that the government price was Rs.40.kg while the shopkeepers were selling it on Rs.60/kg. Some shopkeepers told that APA Landikotal had ordered the concerned officials to provide the sugar bags to their favourites to let them make money. They proposed that if the sugar bags had distributed in more shops, there would be no crowd of the people.
A sugar bag with Rs.230/ 5 kg was given to the press club for twenty-five reporters. There was a mammoth crowd of the local tribal people on the few shops to get minimum sugar to meet their needs.
