The Philippines has an endless pool of talents that are bound to make waves in the world whatever field they choose to excel in. Last June 2009, a Filipino graduated with summa cum laude from Harvard University with an Anthropology degree. Paul Jeffrey Ramirez Leopando who finished at the International School Manila had to make a life decision when he was accepted by Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Oxford—all on full scholarship. After weighing the pros and cons, he chose to spend his university days at Harvard for its reputation, history and the endless opportunities around the world that it can give him. Through his studies, he traveled to Bolivia, Senegal and Scotland. He was a member of the Baroque Chamber Orchestra that plays medieval, renaissance and early baroque music. His parents are certified public accountants. His Harvard experience is deemed unforgettable since he socialized with the world’s brightest minds and teachers. He teaches middle and high school English in Hong Kong. He plans to proceed to further studies and law. At 23 years old, he yearns to go back to his roots and work for human rights, migration and environmental issues.
