Reilly bombs again with Vampires Assistant

John C Reilly was given another chance to headline a movie and just like 2007’s Walk Hard his new flick The Vampires Assistant failed miserably this weekend. It opened at number 8 with just over $6 million this past weekend.

For some reason the powers that be in Hollywood are under the impression that John C. Reilly is great box office draw. I believe the reason for this mentality is that he’s ugly and he has CO-STARRED in a couple of hit movies. Ever since Dustin Hoffman exploded onto the Hollywood scene it seems like any other actor who is funny looking and gets a little exposure is anointed by Hollywood as an incredible talent. This is simply not the case. Just because Reilly is ugly and is capable of memorizing lines does not make him a great actor. He’s not even a good actor. Audiences know this but for some reason Hollywood does not.

It’s extremely difficult to become a star in Hollywood. Even if you’re a great actor chances are you won’t become famous. Sometimes however there are those celebrities with little talent that manage to slip through the cracks of fame. John C. Reilly definitely falls into this category. Below are some more examples of this rare breed.

Phillip Seymore Hoffman.

Another ugly actor, with little talent, who is famous and considered to be a great actor. He even won an oscar but in reality he’s pretty much the kiss of the death at the box office. He played the villain in Mission Impossible 3. This was directed by J.J. Abrams who directed one of this years biggest hits Star Trek, and starred one of the biggest stars in the world, yet it was by far the least successful in the series. At least Reilly has co-starred in a few hits. Hoffman can’t even say that. Even when the movie’s good, if it has Hoffman in it, it won’t do very well at the box office. Yet I have to say Hoffman is a little more talented then Reilly.

Seth Rogan

This guy had the good fortune of working on one of Judd Apatow’s first projects, Freak and Geeks. This led to him getting a lot of exposure when Apatow became a famous director producer. He has some talent but isn’t nearly as talented as he thinks he is.

Jonah Hill

This guy thinks he’s a great actor because he yells most half of his lines. He’s an even bigger ham then Rogan. He won’t last but he’ll make millions before Hollywood finally catches on.

Terri Hatcher

I’m not just targeting unattractive. I remember seeing Terri Hatcher on an old episode of Night Court when I was a little kid and thinking she was about the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. I also remember thinking I probably wouldn’t see her on anything else after observing her acting ability.

Superman is my favorite superhero. I love Smallville but I couldn’t watch Lois and Clark. One of the main reasons was because Hatcher was such an awful Lois Lane. Not that Dean Cane was a much of a Superman. Hatcher has gotten better over the years however.

Tim Burton

I know he’s not an actor but he’s a celebrity that shouldn’t be one. He had the good fortune of being picked to direct Batman which guaranteed him job security in Hollywood. He’s had a few hits outside of the Batman franchise but I’ve never seen a good movie that was directed by him. He’s good at creating films that are visually appealing but the story and acting is always pretty lame.

One thing that all these celebrities have in common is that they are all confident actors or directors. They all think that they are God’s gift to Hollywood despite their limited abilities. That description might be a little exaggerated in Hatcher’s case but she still thinks she’s a lot more talented then she really is.
