The republican party risks becoming a party of a small minority. Newt Gingrich wrote in his book "Real Change" that the republican party is run by consultants rather than focusing on leaders. Gingrich also mentions that the republicans tend to be business people who are not as interested in policy as democrats. People who are trying to pay the rent, raise their kids, and find jobs are very interested in public policy. The increased support of the public option nationally is an indication that many need health care for their survival.
Health Care make up 16 percent of America's gross national product. Healthcare represents 9 percent in most other industrialized countries. Costs must be cut to reduce the deficit. Much of the money enjoyed by insurance companies pays for bloated CEO salaries and for advertising. New legislation just passed in the Senate will stop waste and fraud along with denying coverage to citizens for dubious reasons. Republicans must persuade voters instead of hurling charges at President Obama. President Obama's cool demeanor juxtaposes the raging right who spew venom on Fox News and on talk radio. The whitehouse is now fighting being relentlessly assailed by Fox since Election Day 2008. Republicans border on self-destruction if they behave as garden variety maniacs dead set on seeing President Obama fail. Republican consultants who run divisive campaign forget that the public wants to hear real solutions. Republicans also have to fight the perception of being backed by special interests who want to maximize profits.
So if you want to continue to lose elections against the democrats, just keep up the mud slinging that turns off progressives and independents as it did in 2006 and 2008.
