Vice - President Calls for Enhancement of Irrigation Network of Gezira Scheme

Vice - President of the Republic and Chairman of the Higher Council for National Agricultural Campaign, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, has directed the General Secretariat of the Campaign and its circles and the administration of Gezira Scheme to work for enhancement of the irrigation network of Gezira.

Scheme. In a statement Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gezira Scheme, Al-Sharif Ahmed Omer Badr, said that the instructions of the Vice - President aim for enhancement of work at Gezira Scheme. He said that the Vice - President has provided support for the programmes on the training of farmers. Badr said that the administration of Gezira Scheme is considering signing agreements with specialized Chinese, Turkish and European companies for modernization of the irrigation network at Gezira Scheme. He referred to efforts being done to restore the cultivation of cotton within the agricultural rotation. Meanwhile, the Director of Gezira Scheme, Prof. Siddiq Eissa, said that the scheme's specialized committees will hold meetings in the current week with the Ministers of Agriculture and Irrigation toward implementing the directives of the Vice - President of the Republic.
