When people hear about their friends or colleagues commit suicide, we naturally feel guilty and melancholy, part of it because it's human nature. We're all connected to one another in some way. Palo Alto faced another tragedy within their community with another student standing in front of the train.
It just saddens me on how another person who went to my high school chose to end their life. This has been the 4th one apparently. People say that all these suicides and other suicide attempts are the result of school's overpowering pressure, or that the students were emotionally disturbed. But are any of these true? No. Gunn is a fantastic school with great academic potential, good community and friendly staff. The reason why the students committed suicide? Who knows. It's another one of the mysteries that we can't solve.
I have been to Gunn for mere 3 months in 2007, and I constantly remind myself that I shouldn't be disturbed by this because I never knew anyone. But it's unavoidable. That deep, heavy feeling inside your chest. It haunts you on how students have suicided, and that you couldn't prevent it.
R.I.P. my dear colleagues. I truly wish that you are in a better place.
