This Sunday (Oct, 25) was a stressful time for the people who live in eastern Indonesia. Since 3 o'clock in the morning, a series of large-scale earthquake at some point.


Based on report of BMKG Indonesia (Indonesia Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency), the latest quake occurred at 106 kilometers northeast of Bitung regency, North Sulawesi province at 10:25 (Central Indonesian Time, CIT).


Earthquake have magnitude of 5,2 Richter Scale The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers under the sea, at coordinate 2:34 north latitude - east longitude 125.55.

"I am very anxious to see this situation," said Jarot Hertasmin, residents of Makassar, South Sulawesi Province.


Although he lived in an area located approximately 594 miles or 2070 kilometers from the center of the earthquake, but the North Sulawesi and South Sulawesi there in one of the island. So he is also worried about potential earthquakes in him region.


The first quake occurred at 04.54 CIT in Waingapu District, West Nusa Tenggara Province with scale 6.1 RS. Then the aftershocks occurred in the same area, at 05.04 CIT with scale 5.5 RS.


The third earthquake occurred in Tual District, North Maluku Province SR 5.3 scale. then the last earthquake occurred in Bitung, North Sulawesi. Within six hours, eastern Indonesia came under attack the earthquakes four time.


On Saturday (Oct, 24), at 22:40 CIT, large earthquake occurred in the district of Tual, with scale 7.3 SR. According to the BMKG information, the earthquake-tsunami potential, but it was not happening.

Western Indonesia was in fact did not escape the earthquake. 09.50 At CIT, 5.0-scale earthquake SR in Siberut Mentawai District, West Sumatra Province.


So far, has not reported any casualties. That is probably because the population in eastern Indonesia is relatively much less than in western Indonesia.


Head of the Center Earthquake and Tsunami BMKG Fauzi to Detikcom news portal, on Sunday, said, "That's the impact of tectonic plate movement. Sometimes it has increased but every day there is only, the frequency increased especially after a big earthquake is often a lot of aftershocks."


According Fauzi, the previous large earthquakes occurred the West Sumatra (7.6 RS), Tasikmalaya Cityy (7.3 RS ), Jambi Province (7.0 RS) and Banten Province 6.4 (RS). All areas were in western Indonesia


BMKG, continued Fauzi, can not predict the time and magnitude of the earthquake that happened. BMKG just announced a large earthquake potential and a small earthquake in Indonesia.


Major earthquake potencially occurred on the coast of West Sumatra Province, southern Java Island, southern Nusa Tenggara West/East Provinces, northern Papua Island and Gorontalo Province. While a small earthquake occured on the Sumatra Island, Sukabumi City, Yogyakarta Province, and Sulawesi Island.


To anticipate the impact of the earthquake, people are suggested to improve the building poles respectively.


"If we had been prepared, not to worry. Buildings, houses and other buildings will be strong," said Fauzi.*
