Eat your pet - reduce carbon footprints

Here are some hard and unpleasant facts that you need to know if you own pets – always strike a balance between your pet and its carbon footprints. A suggestion is – eat the dog or the cat and eliminate its carbon footprints. It might sound strange but a research carried out by two New Zealanders has unearthed a startling fact – dogs are a danger to the health of our planet. A medium sized dog has carbon footprints that are comparable to that of a Toyota Land Cruiser that does 6000 miles per year! Do not keep them as pets, they say. No one disputes the fact that the dog is the most faithfully of friends one can have – but the damage it causes to the environment offsets its utility value. The findings are based on a comparative study of land required to grow food for the pets from cats and dogs to budgerigars. As per the findings, an average size Collie eats 164 kgs of meat and 95 kgs of cereals per year whereas a pair of rabbits can give birth to at least 36 young ones which can, in turn, account for 72 kgs of meat – this would reduce the carbon footprints for its owner.

This report will unleash a firestorm of controversy. But I suspect truth is on the side of the researchers. I've heard many say, "How can I make a difference in the light of world poverty...I'm just one person." But what if they diverted the money they spent on their pet to human need? These researchers are taking a similar approach with their carbon footprint angle to something I've privately thought for a long time.

grateful for your well thought out comments - carbon footprints is a problem that has to be addressed ... it may be blunt to say 'eat your dog or cat' ... basically, the realisation has to be there ...

No life form is worth sacrificing for the sake of carbon footprints. Its a much better idea to shut down the production of chemicals, usage of gas emanating vehicles, or production of materials like plastic, or factories that emanate unburnt of partially burnt emissions, if they wish to save on carbon footprints.

We cooked two medium pigs for my birthday last week and we are still eating the meat from them. On the other hand, my wife has pigeons that keep breeding all the time. Every few weeks there are two or three eggs and more birds. I asked her what is she going to do with so many pigeons?
Wait until they get older and grow a bit in size and she will make pigeon
meat to eat. I love eating fried pigeons was my answer, they are better
and more delicious than chicken. 25/10/2009.

im not loving this.. pets are pets... the question should be .. can you afford the cost of carbon footprint versus what you can contribute to lessen the load pets may cause in a different way

I'm all for helping the environment and reducing carbon emissions, but I'm not going to put some dog meat in that shake and bake mix. Climate change and global warming are definitely serious problems, but animal cruelty is a problem as well. The goal is to solve one issue without creating or worsening another issue.
