Despite all of President Obama’s campaign promises to usher in a new era of politics in Washington, D.C., it seems as if Obama is more likely to turn back the clock to the Nixon era of enemies' lists and boycotting of unfriendly press bureaus. Harkening back to the Nixon White House, President Obama trotted out chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and political advisor David Axelrod to basically tell the other media outlets not to follow FOX’s lead on any of their stories if they want to continue to receive favorable access to the White House.
This is alarming on its face, but considering that FOX NEWS recently broke the stories on the controversial appointment of avowed communist Van Jones and the revealing tapes of ACORN staffers encouraging prostitution and the sexual enslavement of under-aged illegal alien teenagers, it should be troubling to other members of the media and the public-at-large.
It would not be too big a stretch to conclude that the continuing revelations from FOX NEWS have apparently hit a considerable nerve at the White House which has Obama’s advisors scrambling to figure out a way to get FOX NEWS off the scent of this news story. Why else risk the embarrassment of seeming to single out one news organization? Isn’t this the same pattern seen with the Nixon White House against the Washington Post?
Rightly or wrongly, the Obama White House has now painted itself into a corner of having to defend an illogical ostracism of one the largest members of the press. Having declared that FOX NEWS would not be afforded any interviews with Obama or his key advisors, the President seems more willing to sit down and talk with Ahamdinejad, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro or Kim Jong-il at this point than one of the largest media organizations in his own country. How ridiculous is that?
