This occurrence is one of the greatest things to happen in quite some time. When you hear the fight song at University of Mississippi during their next home football game, it will sound a little bit different because the university's administration have voted to change the words of the song. The words "the South will rise again!" will be taken out of the song. Finally, somebody with some sense in school administration. The idea of the South rising again is a subtle reference to slavery and racism, the reasons why the Civil War was fought. Saying that the South will rise again shows how racist Mississippi has been by wanting the oppression of minorites to become the status quo once again. Ole Miss is also in the process of changing its logo of Colonel Rebel, which is a caricature of an old, cantakerous plantation owner. These types of racist policies will no longer be tolerated in any part of the USA. The Confederacy was defeated in the Civil War and those old racist ideologies must remain dead and buried.
