Researchers will soon have a much needed "Genetic" Database of over 100,000 patients that will help them do research pertaining to heart disease, diabetes and tailoring of drugs for specific genetic "profiles..."
The database (the first of it's kind ) is being stripped of any identification of specific patients and being made available by Kaiser Permanente. Once it is up and running, researchers will be able to go on-line and obtain the information they need to complete their research projects.
Information in the database will include each persons health records, lifestyle surveys, air and water quality information along with other factors that will be helpful to researchers.
The database will initially consist of 100,000 patients, but Kaiser is planning on raising that number to 500,000 by 2013.
