The River Ganges beckons you

Kolkata : India | about 1 month ago

Kolkata is trying to woo tourists via the waterways. The Calcutta Yacht Club would be offering kayaking and other water sports on the River Ganges. The idea gets encouragement from the tourism on the River Nile which, reportedly, nets nearly 200 millions of dollars every day. The River Ganges breathes life into only a minuscule portion of the metropolis of Kolkata which is more famous for its pollution, and politicians - the body of water in the Ganges is a welcome relief. Despite the murky waters that get murkier every day, floating on the water in a hotel has a charm of its own. That is what FLOATEL is all about – it is a 4-star luxury on the water. It boasts of nearly 50% foreign tourists. With kayaking, speed boating and other water sports on the anvils, Kolkata should see a spurt in tourism.

The last I heard of Ganges in the news and the pics that I saw, were filled with sewage and there were issues of the area being polluted by devotees, who keep pouring anything and everything into the river in the name of religious offerings. It would be much better to simply close one's eyes and pray goddess ganges without pouring anything into the river, and killing the aquatic life within by making it uninhabitable. That will also prevent water-borne diseases for those, who then drink water from the same river, in the name of a religious drink.

arnica - you must have heard of the famous ganga action plan, also known as the GAP ...not only the ganges (or ganga) but indian rivers are easy dumping grounds for all types of wastes, including industrial ones ... if the administration was serious, it could have converted the ganges into a really beautiful waterway of world standard ... but, politicians love to yell instead for the 'clean-up' operations ... it is loaded with money that can easily be siphoned off ...

Wow, seems to be great place to spend a vacation and if they really earn that much everyday, could be a good place to start a business...
