Amy and Uno, are the two clever dogs ,a German Shepherd and a Labrador who have succeeded in sniffing out products from the luggage of passengers travelling into Frankfurt International airport. Those articles that are being intercepted are made from skins of endangered species or they are horns or tusks of those wild animals that are gradually disappearing from our planet.
A pilot project has proved to be quite successful and has helped custom officials in arresting the culprits.Frankfurt airport, in particular, was chosen as flights arrive here from major critical regions of the world, like Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America.
These trained dogs help custom personel to discover, snakeskin bags, sharkfins,a rhino horn, tusks of elephants in the form of ivory and much to their surprise, once even a bear skull which was about to be smuggled into Germany or perhaps was on its way to another destination.
This idea was thought out and implemented by World Wide Fund for Nature
(WWF)and was started about a year ago along with another enviromental group,TRAFFIC.
