HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Carrie Fisher ('Princess Leia')
Born October 21, 1956 to Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Carrie went to several acting schools and eventually got her first movie roll in "Shampoo"...
Her next movie roll was as "Princess Leia" which she says she got "by sleeping with some nerd..." The roll gave her the chance to become friends with John Belushi and Dan Akroyd (who she was engaged to, but never married) and led to a roll in "The Blues Brothers"
After doing a number of other movies, she realized that she "never wanted to be an actress" and slowly went into a depression that got her hooked on drugs.
The spiral continued downward until she finally said 'enough' and got herself off drugs... She took up writing and found it was something she really enjoyed - she went on to write a screenplay and 2 books...
Since then she's been in a few "select" movies and is now doing something she really enjoys - hosting "Conversations from the Edge" and working on the "Oxygen" cable channel...
