Obama vs. Fox News

  • Fox News personality, Glenn Beck on the comments made by Obama in ...

Okay, so honestly Fox News is not the most straightforward news channel. It is flooded with partisanship and propaganda and in my opinion a network that is detrimental to our American society. It does not give straight facts nor is “fair and balance as they so frequently claim. It has ways of making the Republic Party and all involved in it to look superior to all that challenge it. To sum up how I feel in regards to their station, the words of Jon Stewart taken from his appearance on CNN’s Crossfire are fitting, “Stop, you’re hurting America.”
However, no matter how insufficient this news station is at performing their job, providing news, the White House should not be the ones to call them out on this. With Obama’s approval ratings falling day by day, this does not appear to be something will be of benefit to him. Especially, considering that a good amount of people who are not fans of Obama and his administration are Fox News viewers. Although I do agree with the statements made in reference to the Fox News channel as made by White House Communications Director, Anita Dunn, these statement should have not been made on air. Not only does it make them not look like the bigger person, but they are also giving Fox something to run with, which leave us to question, is this really what we need right now?
How this situation should have been addressed, and I’m sure it will be soon, is for Obama to walk into the lions den. He has to go onto a prime time Fox show such as the O’Rielly Factor for example, which I understand can be a frustrating experience since if you do not agree with Mr. O’Rielly he does not allow you talk, and attempt to calmly discuss his future plans and explain what he is doing as well as address the issues that he has with the Fox network. This is how issues are usually resolved amongst upstanding, civilized, individuals; however what we must remember is that it’s all politics. What it comes down to is the Obama needed a source to attack in order to “rally the troops” and get something stirred up. These comments made by the White House in reference to Fox News essentially are an attempt at giving America a target, as well as a distraction.
Now, some might say, “Well, why is Fox okay with this?” If you notice, other America news networks such as CNN and MSNBC have also been running the story about Obama vs. Fox News. This is resulting in many viewers of these networks changing their channels over to Fox News to receive the information about this from the one who is being attacked. This has resulted in Fox’s rating to grow. They are in effect helping each other to achieve what both parties desire, something to blame and something to talk about.
When will this nonsense be able to stop? The American news waves are flooded with mass amounts of partisanship, corruption, and trickery resulting in providing the public with skewed facts. Have we no regard for the truth? Do we the people of America really have to be forced to get our news imported from sources such as BBC who can provide us with better straightforward news about own country than we can? Why must so many unnecessary problems keep being created when there are so many yet to be fixed? This situation has made me unsure of the values of our government when they chose to not engage in direct confrontation with someone who they have an issue with and rather to attack through the very source (the media) in which they are insulting.
Inform yourself and be aware to the world, it’s the only chance you have.
