This is right out of the story books – Stan Martell had to climb up a tree and remain there for nearly 12 hours when his boat capsized in the crocodile infested Lynne River. He had a whole horde of crocs right under the tree waiting for him to slip and fall. Once daylight broke, he ran to his stranded boat and activated the on-board EPIRB Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon to summon help. Stan was lucky because, even though his satellite enabled mobile phone had gone on the blink, the EPIRB saved him. The rescuers feel that if the EPIRB was not with him, he might not have been rescued so soon because the area is an isolated stretch that people very seldom visit.
