The draw for the European Qualifying Playoffs for the World Cup 2010 in soccer was determined at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. The eight teams that were involved in the draw were France, Portugal, Russia, Greece, Ukraine, Ireland, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Slovenia. These eight teams ended up in second place in their respective European groups which gave them the chance to participate in this playoff to determine who will join the automatic qualifiers who won their groups to the World Cup in South Africa. The games will be played in a home-and-home format on Nov. 14th and the 18th. Here are the results of the draw.
Republic of Ireland vs. France
Portugal vs. Bosnia Herzegovina
Greece vs. Ukraine
Russia vs. Slovenia
Also, on those two dates of the 14th and the 18th, Uruguay will be playing Costa Rica to determine who will earn their trip to the World Cup. The pride of these countries will be on the line next month.
