Users of Social sites like "Facebook" or "Twitter" need to be aware of one of the dangers that has cost users Hundreds of Millions of dollars...

These sites are now being "preyed" on by professional criminals who are using the sites because the sites are geared towards friends communicating with each other (and the people running these scams end up with a "goldmine")

All it takes is a single 'click' on a message from someone you don't know (and because of the way this scam works - you may "think" you're replying to a message from someone you know, when in reality you aren't - this happens because once someone clicks on a message, the scammer gets a list of all of their "friends")

One example of how the scam works is you'll receive a message from a "friend" saying they're in trouble and need some "emergency" money...

Amazingly, more than 70% of these scams are actually successful, because the people think they're sending money to a "friend'...

In 2008 alone over 70,000 reports were sent to the Internet Crime Compliaint Center (and then on to police agencies) with more than 265 MILLION dollars reported stolen (an average of $930 per person) and these are the "reported" ones, you can imagine how much more has been stolen but not reported because people don't want to admit they were conned...

    Some of the crimes are being reported and handed over to the police, but a lot of people aren't reporting whats happened (embarrasment) so the answer to your question is "yes and no..."

    OMG, this is something totally new that I have come across, and probably you need to post a link to this news item on your facebook profile and request your friends to forward the link to as many facebook friends as possible, to prevent any further criminal fraud.
