Go to Mars in 39 days

Ottawa : Canada | about 1 month ago

Space exploration is not a subject that is the sole reserve of NASA and the US of America any longer. The examples are the Chandrayaan missions of ISRO. And, now, Canada has emerged on the scene in a very big way. Canadian scientists claim to have developed an ion rocket engine that can shorten trips to the Moon and Mars to within a few days instead of the earlier belief of several months. The initial calculations put a trip to Mars at 39 days as compared to the earlier prediction of six months. This makes such missions feasible and must be greeted with elation by the scientists who live for that golden day when Star Trek would become a reality.

Good to see that the "Mission to Mars" is becoming more of a scientific certainty than science fiction. The Chandrayaan Program seems quite timely and relevant and the 39 day window is a dramatic improvement. Would it be neccessary to knock out the astronauts to achieve such speeds in the ion rocket ship?
