After a two year hiatus, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are back in the studio to record their upcoming tenth album. The band went on hiatus after the release and tour of their mulit-platinum album Stadium Arcadium. The band members said that after non stop work since the release of Californication in 1999 they had run out of steam and needed a break. During the hiatus, Flea enrolled at USC to study composition, music theory and jazz trumpet. Anthony Kiedis kept busy by tending to his son, Everly Bear. Chad Smith formed the super-group Chickenfoot with guitarist Joe Satriana, singer Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony. The group released their self titled debut album which peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart. Guitarist John Frusciante did not shy away from music during the hiatus. He released his tenth studio album The Empyrean in January. He also worked with RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan on his new album. There were rumors during the summer of 2009 that John had quit the band for a second time, a claim he denies. After two years away from each other the four band mates are back in the studio to record new material for the first time since Stadium Arcadium. There is no release date set for the new album.
