President Obama has given his supporters very little to which they can point to and say, "This is why I voted for him." He has not brought real health care reform. He has not created jobs. He has not made America energy independent. He has not tried to regulate the financial services industry. He has not ended "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." He is escalating the war in Afghanistan. He has started a new war in Pakistan. He is still relying on private military contractors like Blackwater to do his dirty work in both those wars. He does not really plan on withdrawing from Iraq. And he has not really cut carbon emissions.

But there is a way that Obama can salvage his presidency, and that is unilateral nuclear disarmament. If he is serious about creating a world free of nuclear weapons, then he ought to put his money where his mouth is. He ought to lead by example. If he fails to do this, then he is nothing but a hypocrite. In fact, he may already be a hypocrite. He has over 5,500 nukes under his control, and yet he is giving the Iranians a lot of grief over the fact that they may want just one. There isn't even any evidence of Iran wanting one. But Obama does not even wants Iran to even have the capacity to build a nuclear bomb... all the while Obama is enjoying the massive power trip of having his finger on the buttons of 5,500 nukes.

Here's a fun fact: Pakistan went from having zero nuclear weapons to having like 90 of them in about 10 years... while Iran has been working on its nuclear program for 40 years now... and it still does not have a single nuke. Doesn't this tell us something? Doesn't this tell Obama something? Isn't it possible that Iran has no interest in anything other than using nuclear power to create electricity? Iranian scientists are smart and resourceful. If they wanted to, they could certainly have developed a nuclear bomb 10 years ago, or even 20 years ago. But they haven't.

Obama should dismantle America's nuclear arsenal. Just do it. Don't wait for the Russians, or the Chinese, or the North Koreans. Just do it. Make the world a safer place. Earn the peace prize. Making a speech about nuclear reduction is fine and dandy. But to actually do it would be awesome, statesmanlike, historic, and just plain awesome. All of Obama's other promises will take a lot of time and effort, and they still may never come to pass. But the elimination of the US nuclear arsenal is totally doable. Even if Obama ends up being a One-Term President, if he is able to get rid of America's nukes, then he will forever be remembered as having been a true peacemaker, and for having the greatest legacy of any world leader in the 21st century.

Dream on - you think Obama should dismantle the nukes BEFORE everyone else? Pipe dream. It will never happen and another thing - American people don't want him to do that either. We don't TRUST the Chinese SwinginJazz, and we don't trust the Russians either.

As for Iran...We don't trust them either and if they ever build a nuke - we'll be ready to launch an interceptor should they point it toward us.

There is WAY too much hatred in the world directed at the US to ever suggest we disarm first.

    Good article!
