Ever heard of the Maldives islands, the tourist paradise with fascinating coral reefs and white sand beaches off the Indian sub continent? Are you aware that in less than a century, it might be wiped out from the face of the Earth? Due to the global warming, the Maldives is one of the many landmarks that might be lost forever – hence the SOS. The parliament of Maldives, dressed in scuba gear, met in an underwater emergency cabinet meeting to draw the attention of the world to this impending disaster. President Mohamed Nasheed accompanied by the vice president, the cabinet secretary and 11 ministers used a white plastic slate and waterproof pencils to sign the SOS message in a meeting that lasted half an hour. Will the world wake up?
