South African police wound 15

South African Police today wounded 15 people in a rubber bullet massacre including a 12 year old in the ongoing massive service delivery protests. Sakhile township in Mpumalanga woke up to flying rubber bullets as police's efforts to calm down angry mobs failed. Angry residents living in deplorable conditions in townships like Diepsloot and Sakhile have in the past week been holding protests over government's slow delivery or the lack of it, urging government to deliver on it's campaign promises. However, the residents insist police had no reason to unleash rubber bullets. Since Zuma's climb to power, the poor have continued to sink their teeth into poverty despite the president's assurances that government will improve their living conditions-By Sheria Mwangala, freelance journalist, Johannesburg South Africa.
